Turn a Word file into a PDF

This tool converts a Word document in .docx format into a PDF without Microsoft Word. A PDF looks the same on every phone and computer and cannot be changed by accident, which is why offices, colleges and websites ask for PDFs. How it works

The document is read in your browser, laid out on pages of the size you choose, A4, US Letter or Legal, and each page is saved into the PDF. Headings, paragraphs, bold and italic text, lists, simple tables and pictures in the document are carried over.

Important limits

The pages of the PDF are saved as pictures, so the text in the PDF cannot be selected or searched. Simple layouts convert well, but text boxes, charts, page headers and footers, footnotes and special fonts may look different or be left out. Always open the PDF and check every page before you send it.

Old .doc files

Only the newer .docx format is supported. If you have an old .doc file, open it in Word, WPS Office or Google Docs and save or download it as .docx first. Password-protected Word files must be opened and saved without a password.

Need selectable text?

If the person receiving the PDF must copy text from it, save the document as PDF directly from Word, WPS Office or Google Docs, which keeps real text. This tool is best when you do not have those apps on hand, for example on a phone or a shared computer.

After converting

If a form has a size limit, open the PDF in the compressor and type the KB limit. To join the converted file with certificates or ID proofs, use the merge tool. To sign the PDF, use the fill and sign tool.

Open the PDF and check page breaks, tables and pictures. Make sure names, dates and numbers are correct, because the PDF cannot be edited later. Keep the Word file in case you need changes.
