PDFPixo

Compress PDF

Make a smaller copy with an optional size target.

Also called: PDF size reducer, PDF KB reducer.

Shrink a large PDF so it fits upload limits on forms and email. Set a target size in KB if you need one. If the file is already small, PDFPixo tells you instead of making it worse.

Make a PDF small enough to upload

Online forms for jobs, exams, scholarships, banks and government services often accept PDFs only up to a fixed size, such as 100 KB, 200 KB, 300 KB, 500 KB or 1 MB. Email services also refuse large attachments. This tool reduces the size of a PDF so it fits those limits. Choose the PDF, optionally type the size you need in KB, and download the smaller copy. It works on a phone as well as on a computer, so you can fix a file right before you submit a form.

Compress a PDF to 100 KB, 200 KB or any size

If a form says the file must be under 100 KB, type 100 in the target size box. PDFPixo tries different picture quality and resolution settings and keeps the best result that stays under your limit. You can use any number: 50, 150, 200, 300, 500 or 1000 KB. Without a target, the tool simply makes the PDF as small as it can at the quality level you choose. If a document is already very small, PDFPixo tells you so instead of making it look worse for no real saving.

How the size is reduced

Most large PDFs are big because they contain photos or scanned pages saved at a very high resolution. PDFPixo redraws each page as a well-compressed picture at a sensible resolution, which removes the extra weight. Standard resolution gives the smallest files and is fine for forms; higher resolution keeps small print sharper. The result looks the same on screen and prints clearly on normal paper.

What changes in the compressed PDF

Because pages are saved as pictures, the text in the compressed copy can no longer be selected or copied, and clickable links and form fields are removed. That is exactly what most upload portals need, but keep your original file if you will need to edit or copy text later. For very tight limits with many pages, a few pages may still be too heavy; in that case split the PDF and upload only the pages that are required, or scan the paper again at a lower resolution.

Tips for the smallest file

Remove pages you do not need with the split or organise tools before compressing. For a scanned black-and-white document, scan it in grey or black-and-white rather than full colour. If you are combining several photos into one PDF for a form, compress the photos first and then merge them. Always open the compressed file once before uploading to make sure every page is readable.

Private by design

Your PDF is compressed inside your own browser. Certificates, marksheets, bank statements and ID documents are never uploaded to any server, and nothing is kept after you close the page. There is no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many files you compress.

Why can I not select text after compressing?
Pages are saved as pictures to make the file small. Keep the original if you need to copy or edit text.

Remove unneeded pages, choose standard resolution, or rescan in grey. Very long scanned files may need splitting.
Is there a limit on file size or number of files?
