Hide part of a PDF
Permanently black out ID numbers or private details in a PDF.
Cover private details in a PDF for good. The covered part is removed, not just hidden under a box.
Hide your Aadhaar number in a PDF
When you share an e-Aadhaar or any ID document as a PDF, the receiver usually does not need your full number. This tool lets you black out parts of a PDF permanently, such as the first eight digits of an Aadhaar number, a PAN, a bank account number, a QR code, an address or a photo, before you send it for KYC, a job, a rental agreement or a SIM card.
First open your e-Aadhaar
The e-Aadhaar PDF downloaded from UIDAI is locked with a password made from your name and birth year. Open it first with the e-Aadhaar unlock tool, then bring the unlocked file here.
Selecting the areas
Drag on the page preview to draw a box over each detail. You can draw several boxes on one page or on different pages. Make each box slightly larger than the text so no part of a digit remains visible. The number of selected areas is shown, and you can clear them and start again.
Truly removed, not just covered
Many PDF editors only place a black shape on top, and the text below can still be copied. This tool rebuilds every page of the new PDF as a picture with the black boxes burnt in, so the hidden numbers are gone from the file and cannot be copied, searched or uncovered.
What changes
Because every page becomes a picture, text in the new PDF cannot be selected, links and forms are removed, and the file may become larger. The UIDAI digital signature of an e-Aadhaar PDF will no longer verify after editing, so keep your original file for official checks.
Masked Aadhaar from UIDAI
UIDAI also offers an official masked Aadhaar download that shows only the last four digits. If an office specifically needs an official copy, download that from UIDAI. This tool is the quick way to hide numbers on any PDF you already have.
Add a purpose
After hiding, add a watermark such as "Only for KYC with XYZ Bank, with date" using the PDF watermark tool. This makes misuse of the copy even harder.
An example
Open your e-Aadhaar with the unlock tool, bring it here, draw one box over the first eight digits on the front side and one over the same digits on the back if they appear there, then apply. Add a watermark with the purpose and date, and share only this copy.
Private by design
Your file is processed inside your own browser. It is never uploaded to a server, and nothing is kept after you close the page. There is no sign-up, no watermark and no daily limit. For private documents such as ID cards, this matters more than anything else.
